Anxiety is thought to be a modern day condition.  One that is caused by our hectic lifestyles and information overload.

However, these are just three of the famous and historical people, who suffered with anxiety.

  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Nikola Tesla
  • Charles Darwin

Can you believe that such famous people, who accomplished so much, could have suffered from Anxiety?  Mental health issues would generally have been hidden away at those times and not discussed, so there is very little information on how they were affected.

Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln is regarded as being the most famous president in American history and many believe that he suffered from anxiety and depression.  Once he commented that “We live in the midst of alarms; anxiety beclouds the future; we expect some new disaster in each newspaper we read.”

Nikola Tesla

According to research carried out by the International OCD foundation and National Geographic, this Serian inventor suffered from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder.

National Geographic writes, “He loathed jewellery and round objects and wouldn’t touch hair. He was obsessed with the number three and polished every dining implement he used to perfection, using 18 napkins.”

Charles Darwin

Once the famous scientist returned from the Galapagos Islands, he became a virtual recluse. Suffering from agoraphobia.
